Once a hungry fox was wandering about in a jungle. Suddenly he saw a crow sitting in a tree. The crow had a piece of cheese in his beak. The fox wanted to get that piece of cheese. He sat under the tree and said, "What a pretty bird you are! Your voice must also be very sweet. Do sing me a song, please,". The crow was greatly pleased to hear his praise. he began to caw with pride. But as he did so, his piece of cheese fell down. The cunning for picked it up and ran away saying, thank your, Mr. Crow. for giving me the piece of cheese.

Moral:

(i) Beware of flatterers.

(ii) Don't trust flatterers.

The Lion and the Mouse

Once there lived a scary lion in a forest. One day when he was sleeping under a tree, a mouse appeared from nowhere. He began to play on the lion's body. After a little while, the lion woke up. He caught the mouse angrily and was about to kill him. But the mouse begged for him for kindness. The lion laughed at this and let the mouse go. The next day a hunter came into the forest. The lion got caught in his net. He shouted, "Help! Help!". The mouse helped the lion. He cut the net with his sharp teeth. Soon the lion was free. The lion and the mouse became fast friend.

Moral:

Do good, have good.

The Hare and the Tortoise

Once there lived a hare and tortoise in a forest. The hare was very proud of his speed. He used to make fun of the tortoise for being too slow. One day the tortoise challenged the hare to race. The hare accepted the challenge. The race started. The hare ran very fast. The tortoise was left much behind. The hare got tired and stopped to have some rest under the tree. He fell asleep. The tortoise passed him and reached the winning post. The hare woke up and ran as fast as he could. He saw that the tortoise was already at the winning post. The tortoise had won the race.

Moral:

Pride hath a fall.

Slow and steady wins the race.

A Foolish Stag

 A Foolish Stag

Once a stag was drinking water at a pool. He saw his own reflection in its clear water. He admire his beautiful horns but did not like his weak legs. Suddenly he saw some hounds running towards him. He ran for his life towards the jungle. Unfortunately, his horns were caught in a bush. He tried to free himself but in vain. Soon the hounds reached there and tore him into pieces. Thus, the stag's beautiful horns brought about his death.

Moral:

All that glitters is not gold.

Union is Strength

Once there lived an old farmer. He had four sons. They often quarrelled with one another. The farmer was very upset. One day, he fell ill. He called his sons. He gave them a bundle of sticks. He asked them to break it. They tried their best but failed. Then, the old farmer united the bundle and asked them to break the sticks one by one. They broke the sticks easily. At this, the old farmer said, "My sons Union is strength". After this, they never quarrelled and lived peacefully.

Moral:

Union is Strength.

The Greedy Dog

Once a dog was very hungry. He stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. He had to passed by a stream. He saw his reflection in its clear water. He took it for another dog with a piece of meat. He wanted to get that piece of meat too. So he opened his mouth to bark. His own piece of meat fell into the stream and was lost.

Moral:

Greed is a curse.

Once a fox was very hungry. He went here and there in search of food. At last he saw a vine. There were grapes hanging on it. He jumped again and again to get these grapes but in vain. At last he went away saying, "The grapes are sour."

Moral:

The grapes are sour.

The Thirsty Crow (Story for Class 4)

 The Thirsty Crow

Once a crow was very thirsty. He could not find water anywhere. At last, he reached a garden. He saw a pitcher there. But there was little water in it. The crow hit upon an idea. He dropped some pebbles into the pitcher. The water rose up. The crow drank water and flew away.

Moral:

(i) God helps those who help themselves.

(ii) Necessity is the mother of invention.

(iii) Where there is a will, there is a way.
